Take the original R-Word “My Words Matter” Pledge by Jenna Glatzer:
“I pledge that I will not use the words “retard” or “retarded” to mean “stupid.” I understand that this is hurtful to people who have disabilities and people who love them, so I will be careful with my words. I will also try to remember to pay attention when other people use these words, and I’ll ask them to stop. “

The “r” Word Campaign © 2007-2015, Rick & Wanda Felty – online since April 2007
People should never say the r word I too have a disability and i think before i speak.
when i hear people say the r word-i get offended because i have two special needs siblings.so when i hear the r word being said i tell the person not to use the word because of the offense it brings to my brother, sister and i and the whole special needs community.people need to learn self respect if they r sayin the word even after i tell them about how offensive it is.
something needs to be done to make people aware that this word is very offensive.just like they banned the “n” word they; need to ban the “r” word the same way-although people might still use it-it will gain more admiration towards banning the word.
i will never use the word retard ever again. my mom is a special education teacher for preschoolers and the disabled kids are absolutely amazing! and they are absolutley normal to me in every way! i have and i will always love them
people need to stop saying this word because they dont realize that it hurts people with special needs so they realy need to think before they say anything
I pledge not to use the very offensive “R” word from now on. 🙂 and i hope more people do the same.
