Action Pledge

Take the original R-Word “My Words Matter” Pledge by Jenna Glatzer:

“I pledge that I will not use the words “retard” or “retarded” to mean “stupid.” I understand that this is hurtful to people who have disabilities and people who love them, so I will be careful with my words. I will also try to remember to pay attention when other people use these words, and I’ll ask them to stop. “

  1. when i hear people say the r word-i get offended because i have two special needs siblings.so when i hear the r word being said i tell the person not to use the word because of the offense it brings to my brother, sister and i and the whole special needs community.people need to learn self respect if they r sayin the word even after i tell them about how offensive it is.

something needs to be done to make people aware that this word is very offensive.just like they banned the “n” word they; need to ban the “r” word the same way-although people might still use it-it will gain more admiration towards banning the word.

  2. i will never use the word retard ever again. my mom is a special education teacher for preschoolers and the disabled kids are absolutely amazing! and they are absolutley normal to me in every way! i have and i will always love them
