Take the original R-Word “My Words Matter” Pledge by Jenna Glatzer:
“I pledge that I will not use the words “retard” or “retarded” to mean “stupid.” I understand that this is hurtful to people who have disabilities and people who love them, so I will be careful with my words. I will also try to remember to pay attention when other people use these words, and I’ll ask them to stop. “

I took the pledge and I feel like I am making a difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
This is a great website!!! and I feel that everyone should read it to see what a difference on person can make. 🙂
i shall never say or write or spell the r word. i was shown this website by the child pastor at my church. i have never said the r word never will i. a couple times people have called me that, even though i am not mentally r or physically r so i have taken the pledge
I am so glad to have found this site! For many years I have tried to change the way people use the r word in a derogatory fashion. My baby sister is differently abled, and the r word is hurtful to EVERYONE! It is nice to know that I can now direct people to this campaign. Thanx for the knowledge that I am not fighting this war of words alone.
I hate hearing it! Thank God for this movement!
