Action Pledge

Take the original R-Word “My Words Matter” Pledge by Jenna Glatzer:

“I pledge that I will not use the words “retard” or “retarded” to mean “stupid.” I understand that this is hurtful to people who have disabilities and people who love them, so I will be careful with my words. I will also try to remember to pay attention when other people use these words, and I’ll ask them to stop. “

  1. “I pledge to never use this word as well as advise to do the same. My life revolves around those with all types of different abilities. They are the most amazing people in this world and I will always give them the respect they truly deserve”

  2. I pledge to never use the words “retard” or “retarded” to mean “stupid.” I KNOW that this is hurtful to people who have disabilities and people who love them, so I promise to be careful with my words. I will also remember to pay attention when other people use these words, and I’ll ask them to stop because i have a sister with Autism whos smarter and more mature than my entire class of 11th graders.

  4. I pledge to never use the “r-word”. I have friends and family that have mental disabilities. Its hurts me to hear such horrible words being used as if they were everyday words. This word as well as others are not appropriate to be used in any situation. Please do not use these horrible words!
