Action Pledge

Take the original R-Word “My Words Matter” Pledge by Jenna Glatzer:

“I pledge that I will not use the words “retard” or “retarded” to mean “stupid.” I understand that this is hurtful to people who have disabilities and people who love them, so I will be careful with my words. I will also try to remember to pay attention when other people use these words, and I’ll ask them to stop. “

  1. I am normal for my age and I will never use the “R” word. It is offensive to people who are mentally impaired [not normal] just because mentally their behavior is not normal. Just because mentally someone is not normal [mentally impaired] and just because they have a low developmental age doesn’t mean someone who’s normal can call them the “R” word. Mentally “R” word is not a good word because it is a naughty word and an offensive word.
People with cerebral palsy or epilepsy are not the “R” word. They’re just mentally impaired or not normal just like people who are blind or hearing impaired are not weaklings. Only offensive people think that.
You and you and you and you don’t think that.
