Action Pledge

Take the original R-Word “My Words Matter” Pledge by Jenna Glatzer:

“I pledge that I will not use the words “retard” or “retarded” to mean “stupid.” I understand that this is hurtful to people who have disabilities and people who love them, so I will be careful with my words. I will also try to remember to pay attention when other people use these words, and I’ll ask them to stop. “

  1. My five-year-old brother has downs, and when I tell people they actaully feel bad for me, my family and him. These people don’t know just how wonderful and talented he is. They don’t know he is capable of doing everything others can, but at a slower pace. He is the best person I know. I love him, this site and the pledge. I will never use the ‘r’ word, and I will not stand idle when others around me use it.
