Action Pledge

Take the original R-Word “My Words Matter” Pledge by Jenna Glatzer:

“I pledge that I will not use the words “retard” or “retarded” to mean “stupid.” I understand that this is hurtful to people who have disabilities and people who love them, so I will be careful with my words. I will also try to remember to pay attention when other people use these words, and I’ll ask them to stop. “

  2. My mom works with Adults with disabilities. It sickens me to hear people saying the word without knowing the TRUE meaning. I did a presentation on disabilities and what is actually means. We need more people like us to spread the word. I took the pledge to not say the word. When i hear people that i don’t know say the word, i turn around and i tell them what it actually means. I know exactly where you are coming from. I myself have a learning disability. I am dis-graphical. Which means i can’t write very well. I don’t let others define who i am. I myself have been called many names, but when i hear my friends call me other friends or people that they don’t know the “r” word, i get on them about it. I hope you respond to this. Again, we need more people in the world like you me and my mom who know what its like to be around such amazing people. 🙂
