Action Pledge

Take the original R-Word “My Words Matter” Pledge by Jenna Glatzer:

“I pledge that I will not use the words “retard” or “retarded” to mean “stupid.” I understand that this is hurtful to people who have disabilities and people who love them, so I will be careful with my words. I will also try to remember to pay attention when other people use these words, and I’ll ask them to stop. “

  1. As a mother of a special needs young adult, seeing what he went through growing up, the torment, it angers me to see others treated in such a fashion….I abhor the word “retard” in reference to a human being….We all have to step up and take care of each other and educate our youth so that they understand that bullying, and use of such words is wrong

  2. I will NEVER use the R word! I cannot believe people would use that word at all!!! There are 2 words that I don’t allow my boys to EVER say and they are the R word and the N word!!! Both words are racist and very hurtful! I refuse to say those two words and I do get very upset when I hear them, so I expect my boys to never say them.
